Arlene Calihan has received the Exemplary Employee Award for February. The award recognizes outstanding employees who demonstrate their commitment to patients, family and co-workers through acts of caring, compassion and excellent customer service.
Calihan is an EVS Tech working in the Environmental Services department. She joined the Gardena team in July 2024. Two co-workers had this to say in their nominating remarks:
“Arlene is truly deserving of this award for her care, pride, and heart she brings to EVS every day. Her work goes far beyond cleaning – it reflects her deep commitment to patient safety, comfort, and dignity. Arlene approaches each task with compassion and attention to detail, knowing that a clean environment plays a critical role in healing. She is always willing to support her team, often stepping in without being asked. Her positive spirit and dedication do not go unnoticed, and she makes a meaningful difference for patients, visitors, and staff alike.”
“Arlene is an exemplary employee from EVS. Her outstanding dedication and her consistency in making our workplace clean and tidy give the hospital a positive impact. Cleanliness is a tremendous factor in making the hospital environment a more welcoming and a safe place to be when a sick person comes here, or even for us as employees. When she is assigned to the laboratory, she always makes sure that the floors are clean, the trash is emptied, the paper towel dispensers are not empty, and she always shows her pride in what she does.”
