Daisy Award WinnerMemorial Hospital of Gardena (MHG) is proud to announce that Nancy Cumming, a Registered  Nurse, is the very first recipient of the Daisy Award within the facility.

Gardena, Calif., February 23, 2021 – Memorial Hospital of Gardena (MHG) is proud to  announce that Nancy Cumming, a Registered Nurse, is the very first recipient of the Daisy  Award within the facility, an honor bestowed upon her for her consistent positivity, support of her  colleagues and extraordinary care of her patients.

“It is an honor to present this award to Nancy,” said Kathryn McLaughlin, Chief Nursing Officer  at MHG. “She has been with us since 2013, coming to work each day with enthusiasm and  constantly going out of her way to help those around her.”

Nancy started her career as a new RN graduate in July of 2013. During her years at MHG, she  gained experience, sought out opportunities, and was promoted to a Relief Charge RN and a  Preceptor for new graduate nurses just beginning their careers.

With nurses burdened with so many extra duties this past year, MHG implemented the new  award program to thank its hard-working team and recognize their outstanding efforts through  difficult times. With no visitors, nurses are spending more hours with each of their patients to  lend an ear, hold a hand or simply be present. They deserve to be acknowledged in the best of  times, and should be celebrated for their unrelenting care of others during this particularly  challenging year.

The Daisy Award is an international program that was founded in 1999 in honor of J. Patrick  Barnes, who passed away at the age of 33 from an auto-immune disease, as a way to say  “thank you” to nurses for the extraordinary jobs they do every day. DAISY is an acronym for  Diseases Affecting the Immune System. Each of the 1000+ hospitals that participate in the  award hold their own nominations and award presentations.
