Responding to an important community need, Pipeline Health will provide urology services for patients at all four hospitals, effective Nov. 1.
The urology services will be provided by California Urology Medical Group, a private group with years of experience providing their expertise to hospitals in the greater Los Angeles region.
“This is an important expansion of critical service for the patients who come to us for care,” said Victor Carrasco, CEO of Coast Plaza Hospital and Memorial Hospital of Gardena.
Two urologists will be on call for all four Pipeline hospitals for virtual consultation through a telehealth service, rather than rounding on site at the hospitals.
“Surgical procedures will be performed at Coast Plaza Hospital, and the urologists will round on those patients transferred to Coast,” Carrasco added. “The outpatient surgical procedures will include lithotripsy and endourology procedures.”
According to Hector Hernandez, CEO of East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital and Community Hospital of Huntington Park, the need to expand urology coverage arose from limited service availability. As a result, patients seeking urology care were often referred to other facilities, highlighting a longstanding demand within the Pipeline hospitals.
“We all can take pride in this additional service for the communities we serve,” Hernadez said.
